2019 End of Year Round up

‘Oh no ‘ the first thought that popped in my head !!!

Its the last Blog Post of 2019 and everyone is full, fat and really doesn’t want to bake….they have just had Christmas

Now I know that means its time round up The Year !!!

The Year of the life in the Cauldron……., catchy don’t you think 😜😜

But its not a year in Blog terms that’s later in a month or two , but its a year in baking developments for sure !!

Oh if you want a recipe then its time to switch off….this post is something that’s not coming easy, having to shout my mouth off at whats been achieved ( that really isn’t my style )!!!

Plus it means more typing ( but plenty of pictures )…….don’t worry normal service will be resumed next week πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

So as some know I’m quite a prolific experimenter, and intolerance baking takes time, reading , testing and basically messing about

But my aim for that everyone should eat cake remains the same and still my passion

The blog is just a snap shot to give you a taster to test the waters yourself.

If you want to know more then pop up to The Ethos section and read all about me !!! I’m quite normal ( there maybe a few folk I know that think I’m bonkers, but they know who I am and it takes one to know one 😜😜)

All the following bakes are as usual Gluten Free and Vegan, thats the year went this year….., will that remain? I’ve no clue as for my household its a GF DF and will I just stop at mainly sweet treats in 2020, not a clue

One thing I have learnt this year is let the ideas come to you, run things past the management aka Kerry ( always at the end of a messenger even though miles away over the water ) , shes usually a judge of my thoughts and usually if its to complex for the blog Im told !!!!

But life isnt all about The Blog, its non profit making and is a resource for those who need it. ( yep I still dream of some sponsorship but I’m no chaser; time is available , so i cant see things changing ).

The rest of my ‘stress baking is personal goals ‘ things I want to achieve …..things needed for me to eat….and the rest of the intolerance world obviously.

If i want them surely there’s a need !!!

Good god now that was a challenge and one I set myself ….cunningly through my baking group……….These are from The Great British Bake of Book of Baking ……recipe adapted of course. The group and regular bakers ( I wont call them normal πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚)

It was my month to choose and I knew that some where apprehensive on the macaron front…..these where actually rustic macarons, I may have taken rustic a little loosely.

But after these I knew what I’m now doing !! May reach the blog next year but be fair I get sick of them they are my only alternative out so much ( non vegan ) I have little interest any more πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ but if you insist I would

Nothing Boring with Vanilla !!!!


Yes they are cookies, and not something akin to the UK….. that makes it even more of a challenge. One i have to plan, my hands with my lupus dont always make it easy. But these ones I enjoyed .

Done for Kerry and Anne ( I may not see them but I can at least let them lick the screeen ).

My first Baby Shower cake…….GF V and look at that cute topper, I was amazing it came out looking as I expected……yep for once I was pleased πŸ™ˆ

Its a BOY !!!


Aquafaba Roulade !!! How the heck I managed it I have no clue……its no where near ready for the blog, it needs revising. But i even had to message The Vegan Queen Gretchen Price for Advise !! So had no and thought it not possible !!!

So this one is definitely to be continued ,passable more than edible but needs something else….not sure what as yet !!!

I couldn’t not include this !!! I went on a course to Renshaw Academy, i still have this and has given me the enthusiasm for small fondant figures……especially Sugar Wobbles ( Georgie Godbold I cant thank her enough her creation ).

Its a crying shame that they have now shut up hands on courses, I’ve only done a couple but the knowledge learnt has set me in good stead to develop


My First Fully Intolerant Wedding Cake, Gluten Free and Vegan !!

If I told you I was approached by an Instagram Follower you may not believe me but its true !!!

Talk about SH…. my pants….oh yes but I did it I pulled it off, all 4 tiers and it stopped upright, thanks to advise from my favourite Cake Artist Laura Newhouse …….

It will not be my last….I’m on it again in March !!!



My birthday, but now its time to talk photography…….its coming along. I still try and make it look as appealing as time and engery allow. i adore this picture and my style has developed…….simplicity and or ‘the crumbporn ‘ 😍😍

A journey this year in My Baking group has to enhance skills using Tessa Huffs Icing on the Cake Book ……off course for me that means altering the whole recipe πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Luckily I dont think Tessa Minds

But to get and Ombre as clear as this I was over the moon ( This is the Cotton Candy Cloud Cake in the book adapted to GF V ) oh yes and they are aquafaba macaron clouds !!!!

All right Two years I’ve battled against the charge of Pumpkin onslaught, but I ended cir-cumming to the Pumpkin Queen Melissa’s pressure

When Tessa of The above cake fame rolled this onto her blog I had no choice……it ended up here on The Blog. Not only is a beautiful bake, but I love the photographs it produced too

Its here…..use butternut squash now its out of season



Now I have to say, I cant so through a year without mentioning ‘my special people ‘my ‘merry bunch of misfits ‘

Without challenges we would remain stagnant and look at at these beauties they knocked it out the park…….. I have the privilege month after month to work along side these bakers, doing thing and trying their best, regular home bakers with the odd GF bake tried on challenges

I continue to try adapting the recipes to cover all……almost all with success, infact the worse failure had meat in it πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ its not as though I’m vegan !!!!


The Grinchmas !!!! Well at home I went for it

Grinch Gingerbread house , Grinch Day Cake and Grinch Topper for my Christmas Cake ……all as I keep saying GF V

There is just one thing I’ve not mentioned !!!!! Pastry this was the year I cracked the code for GF V………. both flakey and shortcrust


I can see pastry in my future , without a crystal ball !!

So there you go I’m done , Ive finished 2019 in Grinch mode
