The research starts ……there’s one recipe out there, for GF Salt dough so theirs a need its in cups so not much use to us weight types and no stabilization
So more research needed
So came up with this, technically it can be baked in the oven so its a bake. π
I make the blog timely and who the heck this time last week would have though I would be putting this on the blog
I’m lucky to own a dehydrator for cookie decorating, fondant decal quick hardening and gingerbread houses so my choice it as my weapon of choice, but you can air or oven dry if need
For two adults that rarely are in the kitchen at the same time, we had great fun
So I can but imagine with children it will be even better and time to roll the paints out too
Some little keepsakes etc etc
I had The Cauldron Apprentice shackled to the kitchen so she is actually the hand model for the working pictures πππ so my claws are missing this week….but she excellent at following instructions and highly trainable ( even at day 5 post c sectionπ )
But of course the star of the show is The Cauldron Apprentice Apprentice ππ
Well her feet πππ
Welcome to the world of salt dough

Salt Dough GF, DF V
Modelling dough for fun
Keep dough moist with a moist tea towel if not using straight away or spray with water and double wrap with clingfilm and pop in a freezer bag
Ingredients
- 290 g Table Salt
- 270 g Gluten Free Plain Flour Blend ( If not using your own blend I advise Dove Farms Freee Plain or Pilsbury US )
- 280 ml Warm Tap Water
- 1/2 tsp Xanthan Gum
- few drops of food colouring gel ( Optional )
Directions
- In a large bowl add the flour and then the xanthan gum
- Whisk together
- Add the salt ( my scales re zero dont panic but you can measure it out first if you are not confident to go straight in )
- Whisk together again to combine
- Start to add half the warm water and mix with a wooden spoon
- Add the rest it will look wet
- Keep mixing it will come together, if necessary add amnextra tablespoon of flour as not all flour blends are the same, but one at a time don’t go mad and give it time to come together till it looks like this
- Dampen your work surface with a cloth and line with clingfilm ( it means you don’t add as much flour and fat easier to clean up )
- Tip dough out onto surface
- Knead until it become smooth adding a SMALL amount of flour to hands and surface as it becomes sticky
- Add Food colouring if using and knead in
- Make a smooth ball uniform in colour ( if using gel colour )
- Divide into 4 ( in our case or as many as you want in shape and size, bit of a mismatch here as The Cauldron Apprentice actually decided to add the colour after as a spur of the moment ππ π. Shes the crafty one !!!π)
- Shape as desire and place onto parchment paper
- If using for foot print keep on hard level surface and bring subject to salt dough for best impressions
- I used dehydrator for at 50 C for 10 hours on this size , they can be air-dried but will take a couple of days depending on size or place in oven on lowest setting for 4 hours (ish ) , also size dependent but they will be dry when lifted and not soft in the middle of the base
- Decorate as desired , for use glaze use a clear drying glue or varnish
- Have fun

So there you go INEDIBLE but can be baked Salt dough π
It can be made into whatever shape you want and great for a weekend pastime with the kids to paint………. and if there is one coeliac mummy or daddy or child out there that uses this recipe for an activity and memory’s made as we did then this post is worth while
Now there’s no crumbporn this week, as that means I’ve dropped then π±
But there’s so footprintporn ( good god I hope that’s not a fetishπ )
So here goes hastily done this evening and I’m writing this post Friday night at 10pm….which has never been know……..but its been a tad busy week πππ
